Few people think about the provenance of their makeup past the obligatory enquiries of "is this cruelty free?" at the checkout counter, but for what it's worth, Canada has made some impressive contributions to the beauty game. As the Canada 150 celebrations approach, it's worth taking a moment to applaud all things homegrown, including empires built on lip colours and highlighters. Happily, there are far too many Canadian beauty brands and indie outfits out there to comprehensively fit into one post, but beauty enthusiasts can't help but have their favourites, and these are ours right now:
Chapped lips aren’t Canada-specific, but they do become a near-universal concern in a Canadian winter, which is what makes Bite Beauty such an excellent champion of the Canuck pout: the brand’s lipsticks and restorative lip masks are part of the select few products that keep lips hydrated enough to retain colour in ice storms. The deep, rich colours in the lip products are supported by a balanced blend of antioxidants and protective fatty oils, which makes the impressive colour payoff last longer in brutally cold conditions. It’s not often we get makeup that seriously nourishes while staying in place, but with formulas this good and easily layered, it seems likely that Bite Beauty’s got us covered for now.
