Caitlyn Jenner started her life at age 65 with a debut appearance in Vanity Fair, making her the first openly transgender woman to be featured on the magazine’s cover.
Since then she has easily become one of the most popular and influential transgender public figures out there. Jenner already has over 2.5 million followers on Twitter, 1 million of which started following her within a record-breaking 4 hours after signing up. She also has almost 2 million Instagram followers and has been featured in countless news articles. Not to mention she is set to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this month’s ESPY awards.
She’s received a ton of attention, both good and bad and whether you love her or hate her, you have to give credit where credit is due. Caitlyn hasn’t been with us for that long but she’s already looking to help others get to where she is: happy and able to live life as her true self.
This is a basic human right. We all deserve happiness and we all deserve to be able to live as the person whom we wish to be but unfortunately, this does not come easily to everyone, especially those in the LGBT community. Although Jenner has just embarked on an extremely personal journey, she wants to reach out to other LGBT peoples along the way through motivational speaking.
So it’s fitting that her first public appearance after her Vanity Fair cover release was made at a LGBT Youth Center in LA. According to ET Online, she reportedly stayed for about two hours to participate in roundtable and one-on-one discussions with members and staff.
Photos featured in the ET Online exclusive show Jenner in a classic understated outfit, looking comfortable yet chic. She donned a pair of skinnies tucked into black leather boots, along with a long-sleeved black blouse with red manicured nails for a little pop of colour. Her makeup was natural and her jewelry simplistic.
Though she has received some flak for her Vanity Fair cover by people who think that she is contributing to perpetuating male-centric beauty standards, her most recent appearance in Los Angeles shows that, for Caitlyn, it’s not necessarily all about looking super sexy and done up all the time. Caitlyn is also embracing a sophisticated, age-appropriate look that isn’t hyper-sexualized or glamorized, but is still quite beautiful in its own right.
