Q: I have very dark brown hair, almost black. I have been considering going a few shades lighter but am unsure of what else to do other than just colour my whole head blonde. What should I do?
Bill Rowley: I’m asked how to lighten dark hair a lot and it’s not as complicated as it may seem. When it comes to that feeling of having dark hair and not being able to do much with it, you may want to consider the ombré trend or, alternatively, the more natural looking balayage technique. These can be done very subtly and give you warmth and contrast in your look without having to do an entire hair colour overhaul. Either of these will also give you a lighter more modern look rather than old fashioned stripy hi-lights that were in years ago.
