It always pays to be original, but sometimes it's more enjoyable to take on a celebrity trend and make it your own. Enjoying it is one thing, but it's equally important to experiment with what your mane can do for you. Trying out new styles keeps you positive about your hair and allows you to learn its intricacies too, and if you're still not convinced, let's think about this in the long term: one day we'll all be much older, and when people start whipping out photos of their favourite passé hair trends, you'll want to participate in the conversation.
From tight, structured braids to bangs and bobs, Redken Canada's lead stylist Jorge Joao was kind enough to talk us through the hottest celebrity hairstyles. Read on to find out what's fashionable for the months ahead and, more importantly, how to match the look to your own personal style.
Rock the look
“Think of a fringe as putting a frame on a picture; you can draw more attention to what’s inside the picture,” says Joao, elaborating that a baby fringe usually has the effect of opening up your face. Here’s the gospel: it’s all about the lines and, when in doubt, keep them soft. Harder, horizontal lines create definition and width while angles and side sweeps create illusions of length. You don’t really need a product to rock these dainty, extra fine hairs since you don’t want to be spraying anything directly on your forehead either, but on a longer fringe or even the hair pulled back above the fringe, a few tiny drops of Verb’s Ghost Oil ($16) will impart lasting shine and manageability.
