Even though we Canadians are conditioned to brave the harsh winter weather we are blessed with every year, the fact is that facing all the elements can often leave us looking a little worse for wear. Extreme cold made worse by the wind chill, snow storms and ice storms (which I didn’t even know were a thing until 2013) can wreak havoc on a woman’s efforts to maintain her radiant appearance yearlong. Follow these tips on how you can winter-proof your makeup in order to fully embrace your inner snow queen.
Prep and prime
Say it with me: moisture, moisture, moisture. Avoid foaming or exfoliating facial cleansers as they will dry out your dry winter skin even more (but make sure to exfoliate once a week to slough off that dry skin–too much will dehydrate it). Use a gentle creamy or milky cleanser instead, like Lancôme Galatée Confort Comforting Cleansing Milk ($39). Afterwards while your skin is still damp, apply a rich moisturizing face serum like Phytomer Hydrasea Ultra-Moisturizing Polarized Water Serum ($88) and wait a few minutes to let it fully absorb before applying makeup.
