The stunning Kerry Washington is known for constantly nailing it on the red carpet and at the 67th Annual Emmy awards red carpet, she took the crown again (and possibly all the sequins in her Marc Jacobs dress), with a simple, polished, classic look. We caught up with her makeup artist Carola Gonzalez to give us the low down on her inspiration for Kerry’s look as well as a break down of what she used to make it happen.
The glittering shimmer of her dress seems to be the inspiration behind her look, explains Gonzalez, saying it gave her a 1920’s flapper feel. “Its intricate detail called for simplicity… I wanted to accentuate the shape of Kerry’s beautiful eyes without interfering or taking away from the dress. I wanted to highlight Kerry’s beauty in the most effortless and natural manner.” said Gonzalez. The breakdown of the look started off with intense skincare (the hallmark of any stunning beauty look).
To prep the skin, Gonzalez started with Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel ($24.99), followed by a layer of Shine Control primer. Next, she followed with Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation ($58) in “Cocoa Light”, all over to even out the skin. Gonzalez then applied illuminators and bronzers (again in sheer, light layers) to set the look and create a perfect glow. We suggest Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Face and Body ($35) in “Lit” and “Luminous”.
For the eyes, shades of soft mauve and brown were lightly layered and the focus was a black smudged out liner coupled with coats of volume boosting mascara on both the top and bottom lashes. We suggest Lancome’s Grandiose Fan Effect mascara ($35). For the lips, Gonzalez lined Kerry’s lips with Chanel Precision Lip Definer in “Rouge Noir” and blended with a moisture rich lipstick. We suggest the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm ($20) in “Richer Raisin”.
