When we think of the May long weekend, a.k.a. May 2-4, we think of sunny cottage getaways, road trips with our loved ones and outdoor picnics. But sometimes these little getaways don’t end up working out because of responsibilities or simply because you waited too long to book a cottage (or the Canadian climate plays tricks on us and it rains all weekend anyway). Instead of being grumpy all weekend indulge yourself in some relaxing beauty rituals to escape the everyday bustle in the convenience of your home. Here are four simple beauty rituals to try this long weekend.
Treat your skin to a hydrating night mask
Nighttime hydration masks are a simple extra step to add to your bedtime beauty regimen so you can ensure your skin gets the extra nutrients and moisture it needs. My personal favourite: Fresh’s Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask ($105). Enriched with an antioxidant rich black tea complex and moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid, Simply apply this rich treat all over your face after your night moisturizer and head to sleep. You’ll awake the next morning with supple and radiant skin and a corset-like affect on your face so you can conquer your day looking amazing!
Give yourself an at-home pedicure
When you have some free time on your hands, it’s the perfect opportunity to pretty up your toes so they look beautiful in your favourite spring sandals. Begin by soaking your feet in some warm water enriched with peppermint oil for about 10 minutes. (You may want to play some relaxing music to fully unwind during this process.) Follow this up with a scrub down with a foot file to remove dead skin, next trim and file your toenails and finish with your favourite foot cream and best nail polish shade. Budget about 40 minutes to do this and then show off your beautiful new toes!
Indulge in a relaxing bath
Baths are a form of accessible luxury when it comes to at-home spa rituals as they relax all of our body muscles and calm the nerves (depending on the essential oil you add to the water), while giving you a warm feeling all over. To create a beautifying and zen-like escape in your bathroom, begin by lighting a couple of candles, dimming the lights and filling the tub with warm water. Add your favourite bath oil and loose lavender tea to the water for a soothing and hydrating experience. Simply climb in and soak all of your stresses away.
Pamper yourself with a body treatment
When spring hits the skin on our bodies starts to act up as it tries to balance out the dryness of the winter and the extra oils from perspiration due to the recent warmer temperatures. Chances are you’ve got a mix of dry batches and some body blemishes. Treat your skin, the largest organ we have, to the TLC it needs by exfoliating your skin with your favourite sugar scrub, treating body blemishes to a detoxifying body clay, a full rinse with warm to cool water. Finish by nurturing your clean skin with a nurturing body oil from head to toe. For ladies with oily skin try using a light body moisturizer instead to avoid further clogging pores. You’ll have a smooth as silk complexion all over just in time for sundress season!
