Did you know that in 76 countries around the world, it’s illegal to be gay? And nowhere do LGBTs have fully equal rights? Is this ok? We here at BeautyDesk say this is NOT okay.
We are lucky enough here in Toronto to live in a city that is comparatively more tolerant of the LGBT community and more active in fighting for LGBT rights than many other parts of the world. One of the most popular festivals of the year here, Pride Week (the largest of it’s kind in North America), is kicking off soon and, aside from joining the festivities and partying into the wee hours, you can also show your support by participating in Lush’s #GayIsOK campaign with All Out.
All Out is an international organization that seeks equal rights for all people, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Lush is partnering with them through the #GayIsOK campaign to help raise funds for LGBT groups and encourage them to apply for grants through the All Out website to help them achieve their goals.
From June 25th through July 4th, participating Lush stores will be asking, “What if your love was illegal?” to help put things in perspective. You can participate in the campaign by purchasing Love Soap for $5.95, in stores or online.
Fundraising proceeds will go to support grassroots LGBT equality groups around the world. Help spread the word about gay rights by raising awareness through social media: just post a selfie with the golden soap bar explaining why you support LGBT rights, using the hashtag #GayIsOK.
We’re looking forward to seeing all the different reasons why people think that #GayIsOK because really, there are just so many! What’s yours?
