If there’s one polish shade that dominated the catwalk this New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, it had to be Colour Prevails Mannequin Hands CC Creme Basecoat, ($8). It’s barely even categorized as a colour but such is the trend for the upcoming season. This particular “colour” is actually a base coat and lent itself perfectly to the minimal, barely-there beauty trend that was all over every runway. Celebrity manicurist Nonie Creme told The Hollywood Reporter, “Out of six shows, five shows wanted the same nail”. The basecoat is used as a nail primer to provide a smooth, even surface for any polish shade but it caught the eye of many designers who declared it the final look.

Don’t wait until Spring to try this trend. Fall is practically upon us and it’s the perfect time to adopt one of next years biggest trends. The key to making this polish work for you is proper nail care and that means healthy, strong nails. Be sure to only file your nails in one direction to prevent them from splitting at both the top as well s the sides. Shaping them into an oval is a great shape to go for as it is universally flattering and is also the better shape to help prevent chipping and breaking. Also, consider using a cuticle oil daily, which will help to eliminate “hang nails” or dry, patchy cuticles. When left without any moisture, these types of small problems can lead to bigger issues with your nails down the line. Last, don’t forget to apply hand cream as necessary.
