TIFF is fast approaching and we can’t wait for Toronto to be teeming with some of the hottest celebs. If you are planning to check out any TIFF events or just to stalk the red carpet to try to get a glimpse of your favourite star, you will definitely want to look Hollywood-worthy. We caught up with celebrity hairstylist Janet Jackson (what a name eh?), creative director and owner of the award-winning JouJou Hair Studio. She gave us her predictions as to what we might see on this year’s red carpet, as well as a bunch of great tips and tricks so you can look your best for TIFF and the upcoming fall season.
BeautyDesk: What would you say are the best haircuts for different kinds of hair?
Janet Jackson: I would say for curly hair, longer layers so that your curls don’t look all wonky. For straighter hair, long layers as well, because when you have long, straight hair that has no body and doesn’t hold any kind of style, long layers work best. For fine hair, I’d say the shorter the better. For coarser hair, you can go either way. You can do shorter crops, bobs, pixies—it all depends on the individual. Personally, when I’m giving a haircut, I go by their lifestyle because you never want to give a haircut to someone who can’t maintain it at home. And of course if you have a full head of healthy hair, you can have whatever you want as long as it works with your lifestyle.
