When it’s finally the time for young girls to start shaving, their mothers usually impart on them a tiny bit of wisdom: “Once you shave, the hair will come back darker, thicker and coarser.” For the most part that’s true and it’s why most women prefer to wax their legs and bikini zones. But what about their face?
Record scratch.
Their face?! What women in their right mind (and lucky enough to not HAVE to shave their face) would do that?
Many, apparently. And for good reason.
A face shaving for anti aging craze is widely spreading among women. So much so that beauty brands are quickly moving to get female-centric face shaving products to their forefront. According to beauty experts and dermatologists alike, women who shave their face multiple times a week can (usually) expect smoother, brighter looking skin.
YouTube has become a treasure trove of videos dedicated to the art of female face shaving (check out one we love!). And why shouldn’t it be? Men have been doing it all along; since the shave acts like an exfoliator, their skin tends to look younger and smoother than a woman’s. When they’re completely beardless, that is.
The exfoliation that the skin receives from this beauty ‘treatment’ acts almost like a gentler form of microdermabrasion and it encourages collagen production, which can help prevent wrinkles before they appear.
When compared to waxing or lasering hair away, shaving has always been the easier, cheaper, less painful choice and now, since we know it won’t cause you to grow a moustache, it might also be the smarter choice when it comes to your face. Alternatively, lasers usually won’t be able to remove all those baby fine hairs around your face because they’re too light to pick up. So you’re on your own in that department.
The best practices when it comes to shaving your face involve taking a page from the men: dampen a washcloth with warm to hot water, hold it against the area you’re going to shave to open the follicles, dab on some shaving cream and shave in the direction of the hair growth first, then against it second.
Another way to go about it is with small eyebrow razors, like Trim Speciality Care Eyebrow Shapers. The blades are super small and thin and the pivot head is excellent for moving around the curves of your face.
The next time your man lathers up at the sink for a good face shave, join him.
