Last week was a whirlwind in Toronto with the World MasterCard Fashion Week spring/summer 2016 shows. While lots of people were looking at the fresh crop of clothes on the catwalks, we were backstage spotting some of the best beauty looks created by Grace Lee, lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York Canada and Rita Remark, global lead educator and lead artist for Essie Canada. Here are some of the top trends featured as our best beauty looks from Toronto fashion week SS 16 that we’re looking at for the spring season.
We’ve been seeing throwbacks to decades past for a while now, and this season is no exception, with homages to the ‘70s and ‘90s, bringing in a strange, but surprisingly coherent combination of glam and grunge. At Lucian Matis, Lee created a bronze smoky eye with a bit of an undone, mussed-up line that added in that grunge feel to the otherwise glam look. By using warmer tones instead of the traditional black, it created a goddess-like appeal that really stood out. Pink Tartan had a similar vibe, where Lee used more of a burnt-orange-like colour palette and finished off the look with a coral lip that will become the summer go-to for beauty mavens.
