One thing about reds is that it’s very important to know your undertone. Are you cool toned, warm toned, neutral, or a mix? Most people are neutral with a cool or warm leaning, so don’t worry if you can’t tell right away. Cool toned people will look fabulous in cooler toned clothing, silver jewelry, and likely have a pinker undertone to their skin. Red lipsticks that have a blue undertone will be stunning on cool skinned girls. Those with warmer undertones will favour earthier, warmer toned clothing, gold jewelry, and have a more olive undertone to their skin. For warm toned people, a red with a more orange undertone will pair better.
Just about everyone can pull off a good, true red — half of the battle is the rest of the face! A red often needs a balanced makeup look, so eye looks that are dramatic but without much colour (think winged liner) pair well, with toned down blush, if any.
