The Marc Jacobs Beauty Spring 2016 Collection will be graced with the face of the designer’s personal good friend of over 25 years, Winona Ryder. Jacobs purposefully leaked an image from the campaign on his Instagram to make the announcement, showcasing Ryder with a fiercely elegant cat eye and nude lips, complemented by her gorgeously flawless complexion and impeccable bone structure.
In the caption, Jacobs compares Ryder to actress Delphine Seyrig (left), who starred in the 1961 film The Last Year at Marienbad. He calls this film one of his “all time favourites” and says “the flawless cool, elegant and timeless chic of [Seyrig] has long been a reference” of his. And he could think of no other woman who could execute such a look as perfectly as his long-time friend Winona, who possesses “a brilliant mind, talent, and physical beauty like no other.” He writes, “She does not model the look she gets into the role- and exudes it!” We agree, Marc, we agree.
Ryder is equally thrilled to have signed on to Jacobs’ campaign. “It’s fantastic and it’s a huge honor,” she says. One of her favourite things that the pair have in common is their “similar penchant for past eras, and the history of fashion and culture.” No wonder it was so easy for her to fit into Seyrig’s role. The simplicity of the leaked shot screams 60s sexy. The hairstyle, the winged eyeliner, the white highlighter under her eyes, the string of pearls. Nailed it.
Though she admits that she is not particularly talented when it comes to applying makeup (it’s okay, her talents in front of the camera are more than enough!), she does have a favourite from her friend’s line and even a tip for application. “The stick eye shadow [Twinkle Pop Stick Eyeshadow]. It’s in a tube that you can roll up and it’s really soft. It looks like a very thick, creamy eyeliner, but it’s a shadow. I have this trick where I put it on and then wipe it away so it has that next day look.”
The actress has starred in previous campaigns for Jacobs’ fashion line but has never before been signed by a cosmetics brand. She is an undeniable beauty so we’re sure that her beauty debut will go off without a hitch.
