Come the end of the year, our skin gets a chance to recover from the summer blast of excessive sun exposure, chlorine and saltwater. This results in a build of of dead skin all over the face which often come together in flakes and leave us looking dehydrated and rough. If your complexion could use a bit of a boost, focus on your exfoliating efforts to rid yourself of that summer layer of dull skin. We’ve covered every skin type and included product suggestions to help make your life just a little easier.

If you have dry skin: Dry skin often gets flaky in cold weather, which can lead to the impulse to scrub the flakes away. But scrubbing with a coarse exfoliant will only irritate your skin more and dry it out further. Avoid any products that have rough grains that will tear at the skin, or menthol, which will irritate. Instead, look for a gentle exfoliant that contains soothing extracts and a high concentration of moisturizer.
