Everyone weathers summer differently, but for the most part, it's uncomfortable to pile on makeup in the warm months. One worries constantly about sweating it off or whether its clogging up pores; for the most part, I'm a firm believer that a summer look should be no more than a tinted moisturizer (with SPF) and a little bit of bronzer with clean brows. But in some cases, if you're prone to redness or if you simply prefer more coverage, a BB cream is the way to go.
Blemish balms/beauty balms offer light, ultra-blendable coverage which adapts to your skin tone rather than sitting on your skin like foundation. Once only found in Asian markets, there are now (thankfully) plenty of options in the North American market for a variety of both skin types and price points. It shouldn’t surprise that NYX Cosmetics, a brand known for its commitment to bold colours, is also known for a BB cream that’s lightweight but still generous on the coverage. BB Cream ($15) is more affordable than the Smashbox cult favourite and is quite good at hiding the odd pimple or inflammation where thinner balms fail. Oil-free and mineral-rich, it’ll ensure that any makeup applied above it stays in place for hours without overworking the skin underneath.
