Packing for a weekend getaway is equal parts exhilarating and anxiety-inducing. If it’s a good vacation, you know it won’t matter if you forgot a thing or two, but while your anticipation is building up, you’re determined to bring absolutely everything you might need, from spare underwear to extra reading material. It’s a struggle most people share, but it’s also one that doesn’t have to infect your vanity: when it comes to packing a weekend’s worth of both skincare and makeup, a few items can go a really long way. Here’s a checklist that’ll make sure you’ve got the basics covered:
The rule is that it doesn’t really matter where you are–you shouldn’t be going to bed with the day’s gunk on your skin. Unless I’m by a pristine freshwater river with water so clear I can see my palm wrinkles through it, I never cleanse with just water, and even if you’re on a budget, there’s a cleansing wipe that’ll suit your skin perfectly. If you’re camping, in particular, go for a biodegradable or compostable variety that’s not too heavy on the perfume so that you’re not drawing or offending the animals once you dispose of it. I’ve long been a fan of the Yes To Cucumber Facial Wipes ($9) and would heartily recommend them to anyone on a strict budget, but of late I’ve been quite impressed with Kaia Naturals’ Juicy Bamboo Gentle Facial Cleansing Oil Cloths ($15.50) because I find them more conditioning than other cloths and less likely to dry out once they’ve been opened. The bamboo fibre glides better on the skin, and on the whole, while I’m a big fan of the watery, calming scent of cucumbers, I find that a bamboo scent is more uplifting and invigorating overall.
