First there was BB cream, then there was CC cream, so it was only a matter of time before somebody came up with DD cream. But what exactly is it? How is it different from the others? Is it right for you? We’re here to break it down for you and tell you everything you need to know about DD cream.
What it is:
There doesn’t seem to be a consensus on what exactly “DD” stands for yet but it has been touted as meaning “Dynamic Do-All,” “Daily Defense,” “Double-Duty,” and even “Dermatologically Defining” cream. It does differ a touch from the initial introduction of the BB and CC counterparts as this was made available in formulas for both face and body initially. Often creamy, lightweight and non-greasy, they, much like the BB and CC cream, contain anti-aging, hydrating, and light-diffusing ingredients to deliver a dewy, youthful glow. They tend to include botanical extracts, essential oils, often an SPF, vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and similar skin-boosting ingredients.
What makes it different:
While foundations offer coverage and tinted moisturizers offer coverage plus hydration, alphabet creams try to up the ante to create the ultimate in face multitaskers. BB creams added antioxidants, SPF, primer, and illuminators to brighten and tone the skin. CC creams added colour-corrector to offer the same benefits but with more coverage. DD creams are what we call the “over-achiever.” They want to give you everything the others give you, and then some—often in the form of multiple anti-aging ingredients and properties.
Why you need DD creams in your life:
DD creams scream “dynamic do-all” to us because they offer so much of what we need from multiple stand points on skin care and makeup: broad spectrum SPFs, reduction in fine lines, decreased appearance of pores, buildable colour coverage, brightening of skin tone, reduction in redness, extra hydration, enhanced vibrancy and more. DD creams prime, mattify, refine, firm, and brighten, all while being lightweight enough to achieve that “no makeup” look while wearing a makeup that is actually of benefit to your skin.
Here are a few DD creams that we love:
Since they offer so many different benefits, you won’t be able to find one on the cheap side but you probably won’t be breaking the bank either as they generally sit around the $25-$50 price range.
