You already know you shouldn’t be using the same mascara past it’s expiry date (a refresher course here, if you need it). Aside from not letting that tube get too old and crusty, there are a few other bad makeup habits when it comes to mascara we are all guilty of committing. We’ve got the most common mascara-don’ts you should be aware of, to help keep your lashes healthy and bacteria-free.
Pumping your mascara wand
Pumping the wand forces air and bacteria in to your tube which fills your tube with gunk and causes your mascara to dry out more quickly. Pumping will also cause the bristles to get caked with product and your application will wind up a clumpy mess. Try pulling the wand out slowly & twisting it slightly, for a smoother end-application.
